What subject matter is prohibited on Facebook?

  • Discriminatory Practices

    • Using language or photos that disrespects someone based on race, ethnicity, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, family status, disability, medical or genetic condition.

  • Sensational Content

    • Using wordage that is dramatic, over the top, or “clickbaity”

      • Ex: Extremely, Insanely, Shocking, Secrets,

    • Also can be disturbing images

  • Personal Attributes

    • See Discriminatory Practices

  • Controversial Content

    • Any content that can be misconstrued as a social/political issue. This ranges from political figures, army uniforms, to ecofriendliness, to women’s rights

  • Personal Health

    • Photos or languages that depict someone or someone’s health at risk. Photos of surgeries, hospitals, blood, etc. should not be included

  • Nonexistent Functionality

    • Nothing in your creative should look like a button for someone to click on

      • Ex: If you include Facebook post in your thumb that still has the like and share buttons visible, it can be rejected

  • Use of Brand Assets

    • Representing the Facebook platform in a bad way

  • Circumventing Systems

    • This rejection means Facebook thinks you’re trying to break a rule

      • Ex: Using emojis/texts to cover up an inappropriate word/image

  • Gambling, Drugs, Alcohol, Weapons

    • No cigarettes, no alcohol bottles, no straws in thumbs

  • Brand logos

    • Can be mistaken for an ad

  • Revealing/Racy photos

  • Misleading/Withholding titles

How can I tell what campaigns got rejected?

  • If some ads are rejected → probably related to thumbnail

  • If all ads are rejected → probably related to landing page or text

What if I don’t agree with the rejection reason?

  • If you truly believe your campaign follows policy, you have the option to appeal it’s rejection status
